Sungai Lembing is a tin mining town 42 km northwest of Kuantan in Pahang, Malaysia. Lembing is Malay for spear, and "sungai" means river. Per local legend, the local ruler saw a vision of a spear in the nearby river and thus named his town after this vision.

Tioman Island (locally known as Gunung Daik Bercabang Tiga) is a small island located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang, and is some 39 km long and 12 km wide. It has eight main villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek in the north. The densely forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it a popular scuba diving spot. There are also a lot of resorts and chalets around the island.

Its beaches were depicted in the 1958 movie, South Pacific as Bali Hai. In the 1970s, TIME Magazine selected Tioman as one of the world's most beautiful islands.

Apart from its diverse marine life, the inland rainforest area, encompassing approximately 12,383 hectares, in Tioman is a strictly enforced nature reserve. There are several protected species of mammals on the island, including the Binturong,Long-tailed Macaque, Slow Loris, Black Giant Squirrel, Red Giant Flying Squirrel, Mouse deer, Brush-tailed Porcupine, andCommon Palm Civet, from a total of 45 species of mammals and 138 species of birds, including the majestic Frigatebird. Moreover, Tioman has species that are endemic to its shores. The soft-shelled turtle and the Tioman walking catfish are both unique and can be seen on rainforest walks.

The island is served by ferries from the Malaysian mainland, and a propeller plane service by Berjaya Air from the Seletar Airport in Singapore and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Kuala Lumpur.

Introduction

Genting Highlands, just 54km north of Kuala Lumpur, is a fairly recent hill development. Its concept is very different from other hill resorts. Perched at 2000 meters above sea level along the Pahang/Selangor border on the Ulu Kali mountain range, Genting Highlands offers an exciting range of activities that are fun, fast-paced, and entertaining. Termed as the 'City of Entertainment', the resort is popular with day trippers and visitors seeking to indulge their senses in a realm of fantasy around the clock.

History
Genting Highlands was founded in 1965 by business tycoon, Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, who initially acquired the land for the development of the hotel and resort activities. Over the years as the resort became popular, a wide range of entertainment, leisure, recreational and sporting facilities as well as hotels, condominiums, apartment and camping facilities, were added. The resort comprises attraction at different elevations in the vicinity of Goh Tong Jaya, a township named after the founder. At the peak lies Genting Theme Park and Casino De Genting while lower down, at around 1000 meters above sea level, is the Awana Golf Course, Awana Horse Ranch and the Awana Eco Park, all of which offer a variety of pursuits for the visitor.

Genting Theme Park
The Genting Theme Park is made up of indoor and outdoor attractions.

Skyway Cable Car Ride
An alternative to get to the summit of Genting Highlands apart from taking the bus or driving all the way up is to take the Skyway cable car at its station located a short distance before the Awana Golf and Country Resort. The 20-minutes, non-stop cable car ride, ascending from 914 metres to 1768 metres, provide sweeping views.

Abseiling
For abseilers, a series of 12 abseiling stations are positioned on the Awana Hill Park. Multiple abseiling such as tandem abseiling, triabs, and foursome can be held at each station.

Mountain Biking
Within the park are mountain biking trails which include a recreational trail, scenic hill trail, jungle trail and the golf course trail.

Golfing
Carved out of a ridge at 950 metres above sea level is an award-winning 18-hole golf course at the Awana Golf & Country Club. The 6155 meter par-71 golf course poses a variety of challenges to the golfer. Fifty-seven bunkers and several ponds and lakes dot the undulating grounds which puts one's fitness to the test. The most dramatic is the par-3, fourth hole which offers five different teeing positions, which are 18 meters apart. Green fees are RM10 on weekdays and RM80 on weekends. Caddy fees are RM15-RM10 per 18-holes.
There is also mini Golf and a driving Range in the vicinity.

Horse-riding
For equestrian fans, the Awana Horse Ranch is just 2 km away from the Awana Golf & Country Resort. Horse riding lessons or joy rides are available at the ranch.

Sights

After Dusk
Evenings bring out the best in entertainment at Genting Highlands Resort with high energy performances, and international shows at Genting International Showroom. There are also video arcades, one-armed bandits, cinemas, karaoke lounges, discotheques and other entertainment centers.
Genting is also well-known for its casino, the Casino de Genting, which offers Blackjack, baccarat, roulette, keno, French bull and Tai Sai. Visitors must be properly attired. Entrance is prohibited to Muslim visitors.

Accommodation
A wide choice of accommodation is available in the Genting Highlands ranging from camping sites to apartments, condominiums and hotels. Within Goh Tong Jaya, at the lower level, is the Awana Eco Park, a quiet natural area where camping grounds are based. Further up is the Awana Golf & Country Resort which would suit the golf-cum-nature lover. At the summit lie the Highlands Hotel, Genting Hotel, Resort Hotel and Theme Park Hotel, as well as the Ria and Kayangan apartment complexes. Together they provide a total of 3000 hotel rooms and 300 apartments for holiday makers. There are also other hotels such as Hotel Seri Malaysia and Selesa Health Homes at various levels of the hill.

Kuantan is the state capital of Pahang, the largest state in Peninsular Malaysia. It is situated near the mouth of the Kuantan River and faces the South China Sea. The population of Kuantan is 58% Malay, 32% Chinese, 4%Indian and 6% other races. If one measures the distance along the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, it is located roughly halfway between Singapore and Kota Bharu. Kuantan's population is approximately 552,500 and it is the 9th largest city in Malaysia.

The Pahang state government shifted the administrative centre of Pahang from Kuala Lipis to Kuantan in 1955.

Recently, the National Physical Plan 2005 identified Kuantan as one of the future growth centres and a hub for trade, commerce, transportation and tourism.

Pre-historical of Kuantan wasn't found. Kuantan in the first century was actually a part of Chih-Tu empire where mostly the native people are Chinese-Siamese. In 11th century, this piece of land was conquer by another small empire called Pheng-Kheng before taken over by the Siamese during 12th century. During the 15th century, she was taken rule by theMalacca Empire.

Kuantan is said to have been founded in the 1850s. The word "Kuantan" was mentioned by Abdullah Abdul Kadir (Munshi Abdullah) circa 1851/2 as below:

"On Thursday night came a boat from KUANTAN. Then they told the ship's crew there's a pirate ship at Tanjung Tujuh, forty of them and at Pulau Kapas, and as well at Pulau Redang; it was spotted by two Kuantan boats and they set off...."

In its early days, it was known as Kampung Teruntum (Teruntum Village). The village was situated at the mouth of Teruntum River which is in front of the current hospital and it was established by Haji Senik and his followers in the 1850s. Early primary economic activities included fishing and small businesses. The main evidence of the establishment of the village is the cemetery that is situated near Taman Esplanade in front of the current Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan.

Towards the late 19th century, arrival of Chinese miners and traders saw the establishment of a township in Kuantan and also nearby tin mining areas such as Gambang and Sungai Lembing. Similar to what occurred in other states inPeninsular Malaysia, rubber plantations attracted Indian settlers as well.

The sinking of HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse took place off the coast of Kuantan on 10 December 1941.

Teluk Chempedak Beach

Located just 5km from Kuantan town, Teluk Chempedak is a favourite among local folks. Its enclosed bay is suitable for water sport activities like swimming, surfing and jet-skiing. Its casuarina-lined beach is, however, quite rocky at certain places and the waves are often rough.

On the sea front, numerous restaurants and food stalls serving a wide variety of food and beverages attract throngs of locals and tourists alike. They do a brisk trade and open right till after midnight.

The nearby jungle area provides a quick introduction to Malaysia's flora and fauna, with a few different species of plant life, insects and other small animals inhabiting the limited space. Beware of the macaques, as they can be quite a nuisance.

Just around the corner overlooking the beach is an international-class hotel. With the sounds of big waves splashing against the gigantic rocks in the background, this is a place to be at any time of the day.

Place Around Teluk Chempedak
Teluk Tongkang : From the northern end of Teluk Chempedak, take the walkway which leads for about a kilometer over the rocky terrain to reach Teluk Tongkang. This is the only access to this secluded cape which is hemmed in by rocky outcrops on both sides. Its seclusion proved to be the perfect landing site for Japanese troops during the Second World War. The locals named the cape tongkang after the type of landing craft the Japanese used.

Tanjung Pelindung : When the Japanese landed at Teluk Tongkang to make their way inland during the War, villagers fled their homes and took refuge in a hidden jungle coastal spot. They called it Tanjung Pelindung (lindung means refuge). The shady beach, characterized by boulders in the middle; appeals to campers and bird watchers.
